Cow/Calf Spring Health & Reproductive Program Suggestions 2022
Replacement Heifers:
- Pre-breeding by 30-45 days:
- Vaccinate with PregGuard 10 (30-60 days prior to breeding/synchronizing) Repro Tract Score and pelvic measure
Spring Deworm (LongRange Injectable)
Cows: (Young cows should be Spring Dewormed with LongRange Injectable.)
Fall Killed Vaccine program cows: no vaccine needed.
Spring MLV program cows: (>30 days pre-breeding)
Vaccinate with Preg Guard 10
Bulls:
Pre-breeding
Breeding Soundness Examination
If no PregGuard 10 last Fall then Virashield 6 VL5 vaccine
Parasite Control (lice, flies, i.e. Saber, CleanUp II)
Calves: Branding Vaccines
Program #1: (minimal vaccine program, plan on reconditioning in late summer**). Nasalgen UltraChoice 7 (if not on Alpha 7 at birth)
Program #2: (This program is recommended if pneumonia occurs in calves during the summer or early fall and calves will be preconditioned prior to weaning). Nasalgen 3 PMH Ultrachoice 7 (if not on Alpha 7 at birth)
Program #3: (This program is recommended if pneumonia occurs in calves during the summer or early fall and calves will not be preconditioned prior to weaning). Vista Once Injectable Vaccine Nasalgen Ultrachoice 7 (if not on Alpha 7 at birth)
*Remember that proper implants increase weaning weight by 20 to 25 lbs… most calves are implanted prior to slaughter, why should you give up the pounds?
**Plan on preconditioning in the late summer or early fall… about 30 days prior to stress (e.g. August or early September). Calves respond to preconditioning vaccines when they are 4 months of age or older.
